FWCD values diversity in its community and encourages openness of thought and freedom of inquiry.

Fort Worth Country Day recognizes the importance of fostering the intellectual, physical, emotional, and ethical development of its students. In support of the mission and philosophy of Fort Worth Country Day, we seek to create and support a diverse community in which human differences of students, faculty, parents, administrators, trustees and alumni are understood, respected and seen as a vital reflection of our larger society and the world.

In doing so, the school will honor its commitment to diversity through its admission policy, hiring practices, professional development and curriculum. As FWCD designs, promotes and implements programs, it will reinforce its dedication to inclusion as it broadens the educational experience of a student.

"A school that wants to consider itself a community leader must be sensitive and concerned for the lives and feelings of others. It is imperative that Fort Worth Country Day prepares its students for a diverse world and teaches them to understand the complexities of society's stereotypes and prejudices.”

At FWCD we celebrate our Diversity as a rich living educational resource for the fulfillment of our mission. Fort Worth Country Day will integrate its mission statement into the daily life of the school by offering an advanced curriculum and a comprehensive emphasis on the humanities, science, arts, and athletics. Fort Worth Country Day believes that in order to fully educate a school community one must develop their personal, moral and ethical values."
-FWCD Diversity Committee, June, 2003

Diversity, as defined by the FWCD Diversity Committee, is the mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values, and beliefs as assets to the group and organizations with which they interact.

People of Color Conference
Student Diversity Leadership Conference
November 29 - December 1, 2007
Boston, Mass.

This was FWCD's sixth year to attend the conference. The People of Color Conference and the Student Diversity Leadership Conference address two important needs: the need for people of color to come together for networking and support and the need for schools to find ways to build and sustain inclusive communities. Both POCC and SDLC serve as energizing, revitalizing gatherings for people who experience independent schools differently.

Teachers, students and administrators from across the nation and from countries outside of the United States gather to celebrate, nurture and activate representative diversity, multiculturalism and equity and justice for independent schools.

In a recent survey of heads of school, 90 percent indicated that POCC and SDLC energize and revitalize people of color in independent schools. A majority of heads report that POCC and SDLC participants have implemented new programs, activities and services at their schools as a result of attending the conferences. As we face a future where our cultural demographics are constantly shifting, the diversity work we are committed to at FWCDS becomes even more critical.
