College Representatives: Each year, approximately 100 colleges and universities send admission officers to visit FWCDS. They are excellent resources for information about their respective college or university. Often, they are also frequently personally involved in reading a student’s application for admission.
Juniors and Seniors may attend a meeting with a representative at FWCDS by asking permission from the appropriate teacher. Students and parents may contact the College Counseling Office or the respective college admission office for more information about evening programs or information sessions that are off campus.
FWCDS College Day: Every September, admission representatives from across the nation descend on the Dallas/Fort Worth area to visit local schools and attend college fairs. FWCDS coordinates and hosts an annual College Day on our campus, inviting students from Trinity Valley School and All Saints’ Episcopal School to join our students in discovering and exploring over 120 different colleges and universities that attend.
College Previews: We also encourage our students to attend the College Previews in Dallas. This large college fair (typically 200 schools are represented) is hosted by one of the Dallas area private schools and is open to all private and independent high schools in the metroplex.
Parent Programs: The FWCDS College Counseling Office offers two major parent programs annually – “College Jump Start 101,” targeting primarily freshman and sophomore parents, and “Junior Parent College Night,” which is geared toward the parents of juniors but is open to senior parents as well. Parents are also invited to attend a Financial Aid Night hosted at All Saints’ Episcopal School or Trinity Valley School in December. In addition, the CC Office also gives short presentations at the Upper School fall Open House, “Step-Up Night” for eighth graders, and the New Student (and parent) Reception in the spring.
College Tour: FWCDS, Trinity Valley School and All Saints' Episcopal School typically offer a joint Spring Break college tour. Each tour highlights a variety of colleges and universities in different areas of the country – the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, or Southeast. Out of approximately 20 diverse institutions, students select 8-10 schools to visit (including tour and information session) as well as experience some of the local culture and attractions. Recently, we visited Boston (MA) and Providence (RI), where we attended a Boston Celtics game (in addition to the college visits!).
